In round 8 Christchurch played hosts to unbeaten league leaders New Milton 2s for their final home game of 2025.
The two clubs paid a special tribute to one of the Christchurch players who lost his son at a very early age by holding a minutes silence in honour and celebration of what would have been Rileys 6th birthday on the 16th December, in addition to this the home team and their supporters sported something yellow on their person.
The game in the first half was a tight encounter, both sides pushing for the opening score but defences were on top until Sam Farnden scored the first try of the game, converted by Matty Mycroft to take Christchurch into a 7 - 0 lead. New Milton fought back with a converted try of their own to leave the game level 7 - 7 as the teams went into the half time break.
The second half saw Christchurch extend their lead to 21 - 7 with two more converted tries, both scored by Sam Farnden and converted by Matty Mycroft. New Milton again came back with a converted try of their own to pull the difference back to one converted try which made the next score vital to the outcome of this tighly contested game. The next score came Christchurch's way through a Scott Ellis try, converted by Matty Mycroft to extend their lead to 28 - 14. New Milton pressed and battled but were unable to break down the Christchurch defence before a final try scored by Sam Farnden, his fourth, converted by Matty Mycroft, his 5th, to see Christchurch finish the winners 35 - 14.
A tremendous result and performance from the whole squad, it was expected to be a tighter game than our early season visit to New Milton, but for the lads to perform the way they did and come away with the victory shows how the club is progressing this season.
A huge thanks goes out to all who came and supported both Christchurch and New Milton and observed the minutes silence with respect, it makes such a difference for all the lads involved.
