Christchurch RFC
Fareham Heathens RFC Ltd

Christchurch welcomed Fareham Heathens 2s to Grange Road in Round 3 of the Hampshire Counties 6 (South) league.

Apologies for the slightly shorter report, but the reporter had taken himself off to Cardiff to enjoy some hospitality in the "Sir Gareth Edwards Suite" at Cardiff Arms Park.  In an unexpeted turn of events Christchurch RFC were given a mention to the whole room during the Player Q & A session, get us, becoming recognised internationally now.

Back to the game.....with the benefit of Game On rules Farehem Heathens arrived with a reduced squad of 12 and so as the league rules state Christchurch matched those numbers to ensure the game was played.  Christchurch took an early 12 - 0 lead with two tries and one conversion, Fareham fought back strongly over the rest of the first half taking a healthy lead into the break 12 - 26.

The second half saw Fareham lose another player, so the teams matched at 11 a piece and scrums became uncontested.  Fareham notched up the first score of the half with a converted try before Christchurch replied with a converted try of their own.  Fareham scored another converted try, Christchuch again came back with a try to bring the score to 24 - 40.  Fareham then finally took control of the game and ran out the victors 24 - 68.

It wasn't the result Christchurch had hoped for after last weeks win, but we gained a try bonus point which could be vital come the end of the season.

A huge thank you to all those who came and supported - it makes such a difference.

We have a break from league action over the next two weekends before round 4 sees us travel to Fawley 2s on the 14th February 2026, KO 14:00.

Christchurch scorers on the day were:

  • Sam Farnden - 2 tries
  • Marc Harburn - 1 try
  • Mark Martin - 1 try
  • Noah Legg - 2 conversions

Player of the Match:

Marc Harburn.

D*** of the Day:
