Christchurch made a second trip to Fawley in the space of two weeks for Round 4 of the Hampshire Counties 6 (South) league, alas the first visit ended after just 36 seconds due to an injury.
On what was a wet and very heavy pitch the first half possession was dominated by Fawley 2s, however only a single try was scored by the home side in the first half. Christchurch defended stoutly and had a couple of good opportunites themselves that took last ditch tackles to stop them from scoring. The first half ended with the hosts 5 - 0 up.
The second half saw Fawley score a second try early on to take their lead to 10 - 0. A prolonged passage of play in Christchurch's 22 saw a number of penalties conceeded before the ref reached to his pocket and produced a yellow card for Charlie Wilcox for not rolling away. Fawley chose to take a shot at goal from the penalty which they duely converted to take a 13 - 0 lead. The yellow card period provided Fawley with a little more room and they scored another 2 converted tries. A couple of indescretions from Fawley players late on in the half saw two of their team receive the wrath of the refs yellow card in reasonably quick succession. Christchurch unfortunately were not able to take full advantage, one good break from Charlie Wilcox, after his yellow card, saw another fine last ditch tackle from Fawley to prevent Christchurch from scoring. In the closing minutes Fawley found some space to run in a final try which was converted to take the final score to 34 - 0 to the hosts.
It was a bad day at the office for Christchurch, the result dropping us a couple of places in the league standings. With 3 rounds of the league remaining there is still only 5 points between 1st and 5th, so all still to play for.
Again a huge thank you goes out to all those who travelled to support the lads - it is truely appreciated.
Round 5 sees us back on home soil to host Portsmouth 3s at Grange Road on the 28th February 2026, KO 14:00.
Player of the Match:
Blake Yeomans.
D*** of the Day:
Marc Harburn / Charlie Wilcox.
