Alton RFC Ltd

12 - 44

(HT 0-0)

Christchurch RFC

For round 4 of the Counties 6 Hampshire league season Christchurch made the trip to Alton to face Mid-Hants Marauders.

Due to low numbers for Mid-Hants the game was a little odd but still competative and keenly contetsted between both teams in the spirit we come to expect.

Christchurch dominated the first half running in 5 tries (Matt Cooper, Charlie Hatchard, Josh Legg, Sam Todd and Marc Harburn) and 2 conversions (Jake Pidgley) to take a healthy 0 - 29 lead into half time.

The second half was a much closer affair with Chirstchurch opening the scoring with a try from a side stepping Chris Freeman to extend the lead 0 - 34.  Mid-Hants replied with a converted try of their own to take the score to 7 - 34.  Christchurch hit back with a try from Harry Whately to extend their lead again, 7 - 39 before Mid-Hants ran in their second try, 12 - 39.  With time running out Christchurch scored a final try, Jake Williams's first try for the club, to leave the final score 12 - 44 in favour of the visitors.

In the last few minutes we did see four (4) J. Pidgleys on the field, with a 5th running the line :-)

A massive thank you to all those who came along to support.

Christchurch scorers on the day were:

  • Matt Cooper - 1 try
  • Charlie Hatchard - 1 try
  • Josh Legg - 1 try
  • Sam Todd - 1 try
  • Marc Harburn - 1 try
  • Chris Freeman - 1 try
  • Harry Whately - 1 try
  • Jake Williams - 1 try
  • Jake Pidgley - 2 conversions

Player of the Match:

Troy Hickling, top all round performance.

D*** of the Day:

Marc Harburn, a case of the dropsies and the ambling back to a penalty that wouldn't have found touch if he'd made some form of effort to get to the ball.

There is a break in the league next week, 7th November 2026.  For round 5 we are back at Grange Road for the visit of our dear friends Millbrook 3s on the 14th November 2026, kick off at 14:30.
